The cultural meetings promoted by the National Union of Writers and Artists continue with a presentation marking twenty-five years of the tri-annual literary magazine “La Vallisa”, as part of the “Artist” exhibition.

The magazine, one of the most long-lived in the southern literary world, began in Bari in 1981, cultivating from the beginning an inclusive and very wide-ranging project, with the aim, amongst others, of establishing and reinforcing a privileged relationship with the culture of the countries of Eastern Europe – in particular Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Slovenia, and Romania – through the publication of authors, presentation of works, printing of books, and organising of conferences. Other pivotal aspects of the project are the development of creative energies of the country and the young, and the idea of a poetry that is also “social” – including the important experiences and initiatives of “poetry in prison”, and the education of detainees.
The “La Vallisa” group reclaims a method of making literature strong, incisive, visceral, communicative – a vein of authenticity which contrasts with so much weak literature – and also points to the re-evaluation of literary genres wrongly considered “minor”, such as fantasy writing, science fiction, and children’s books.
The twenty-fifth anniversary of “La Vallisa” will be presented by the literary critic Sabino Caronia, the writer and scholar Gianfranco De Turris, and the poet and writer Maria Racioppi. For the magazine there will be additional work with the director Daniele Giancane, and the editors Angela Giannelli, Donato Altomare, Loredana Pietrafesa, Renato Greco and Gaetano Bucci.
For UIL-UNSA the writer Gianni Balella will introduce the debate and the president Natale Antonio Rossi will conclude it.
