40 photographs show the history of Famagusta prior to the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974 until today, a "ghost town", where the time has stopped.
The photo exhibition presents the city of Famagusta prior to the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, a flourishing city full of activities, the city embraced by the old Venetian walls, among the best preserved one in the eastern Mediterranean area, dotted with important medieval and Renaissance buildings.
At the same time, the exhibition highlights the decline of the present-day city: the houses uninhabited for thirty-six years, fenced with barbed wire. The Orthodox churches in ruins. The once luxurious hotels falling apart.
These 40 photos reveals the story of Famagusta, the influence of Ancient Greece, but also the Genoese, Venetian, Turkish and English influnce up to now that has become a "ghost town", where the time has stopped.
